UBS takes the honors in 2007 Global Finance awards UBS has been presented with a string of honors in the 2007 Best Investment Bank Awards by Global Finance, one of the world's leading financial services publications. At an awards ceremony in Washington DC, UBS was presented with awards for: - Best Investment Bank in Switzerland; Global Finance's editors, with input from industry analysts, decided the outcome of the awards. The selection criteria included market share, customer service and advice, deal-structuring capabilities, distribution network and staff dedicated to investment banking. UBS hosts annual Global Life Sciences Conference UBS recently hosted its annual Global Life Sciences Conference in New York. The annual four-day conference is one of the largest healthcare investor conferences in the world. It provides insight on the biotechnology, life sciences (genomics and tools), and medical technology and pharmaceutical fields to CEOs, senior level executives and investors representing more than 350 companies and some 2000 institutional investors. The event offers several levels of discussion for both corporation and institutional clients. For corporations, it provides an opportunity to present achievements, strategies and future plans to analysts and investors in order to build stock value. At the same time, it gives institutional clients an opportunity to meet with the management of corporations to help aid decision making about investing.
UBS launches Return Optimization Index UBS has announced the launch of the Return Optimization Index (UBS ROI), a new equity index that replicates a US large cap equity trading strategy. It is designed to provide a benchmark for certain call strategies popular with many investors. UBS ROI combines total-return exposure to the S&P 500® Index with a hypothetical call-spread strategy. The UBS ROI targets three-times exposure to positive S&P 500 returns over semi-annual periods, up to a maximum gain that is reset each such period, with full, unleveraged exposure to any negative S&P 500 returns during such periods. Aviation Journal honors Cecilia Park as one of the aviation industry's most influential women UBS's Head of Transportation Structured Finance, Cecilia Park, has been voted as one of the most influential women in the aviation industry, in a survey by Airfinance Journal. The leading industry publication has also named UBS as one of its 'Power 30' - commending the firm for undertaking some of the biggest and most innovative airfinance transactions in recent years. Airfinance Journal undertook a vote of industry leaders to determine the most significant females in the aviation sector. Park, along with a handful of peers from other firms, was selected as among the industry's best. The publication commended Park for her cutting-edge work, having raised some US$12bn worth of business in aircraft-related financings throughout her career. UBS joins peers to form premier electronic trading venture UBS has joined a consortium of eight other investment banks and Thomson Financial to drive the expansion of electronic trading with the TradeWeb platform. TradeWeb is the world's leading multi-dealer-to-customer marketplace for fixed income and derivatives, linking 25 leading dealers - including UBS - with more than 2,200 buy-side customers. The partnership will utilize TradeWeb's established market position to create a global multi-asset class execution venue for clients. The dealers involved with the transaction will invest some US$180m to purchase a minority stake in TradeWeb's established market. UBS claims top honors in Asiamoney Prime Brokers and Hedge Fund Services Poll For the second consecutive year, UBS has claimed the two top categories in Asiamoney's Prime Brokers and Hedge Fund Services Poll by winning 'Best Overall Services to Hedge Funds' and 'Best for All Round Solutions for Prime Broking'. Euromoney Japan ranks UBS No.1 in Japan FX market share UBS has been named No.1 for foreign exchange market share in Japan, by Euromoney Japan - the Japanese language edition of leading financial industry publication, Euromoney. The accolade follows Euromoney's global foreign exchange poll, published in May, in which UBS was ranked No.2 overall with volume market share of 14.85 percent. The top five firms now dominate the global foreign exchange market enjoying a 61% market share. UBS continues its dominance of Australian M&A market UBS continues to be the leading investment banking franchise in Australia based on the value of announced M&A transactions and fees generated from completed deals, according to the latest third quarter figures from Thomson Financial. In the year to 28 September, the firm has advised on three of the top five deals. UBS also tops the announced deal rankings with 31 transactions worth US$51.7bn. UBS recognized by 'The Banker' UBS has received a number of honors in The Banker's 2007 Investment Banking Awards. The leading industry publication named UBS as 'IPO House of the Year' and 'Equity Trading House of the Year', in addition to 'Investment Bank of the Year: Asia Pacific'. UBS Investment Bank President hosts awards dinner recognizing Wharton graduates Robert Wolf, Chairman and CEO of UBS Americas and President of the Investment Bank, recently chaired the 2007 Joseph Wharton Awards Dinner at The Pierre in New York. The annual event honors Wharton graduates who are leaders in their respective fields and have had a major impact on the business world. The award also recognizes recipients who have extended their influence into their communities. This year's Joseph Wharton Awards recipients are: Jon M. Huntsman, W'59 (Award for Lifetime Achievement); Steven A. Cohen, W'77 (Award for Leadership); Caren S. UBS tops the league tables for UK M&A The Thomson Financial table shows UBS has advised on 90 announced deals so far this year, worth some US$320bn. UBS has recorded almost three times more volume in UK M&A this year, compared with the first nine months of 2006. UBS sweeps top Asian honors in Extel Equity Survey UBS top for investment banking in APAC UBS maintains its position as the leading investment banking franchise in APAC, based on revenue, for the fifth successive quarter, according to the latest figures from both Dealogic and Thomson Financial. The firm recorded revenues of US$659m - some US$240m more than its second placed rival and US$280m more than the third placed bank. In Equity Capital Markets, UBS topped the league tables in terms of revenues, executing an impressive 107 deals worth more than US$18bn and generating US$333m in revenues, according to Thomson. In M&A, UBS was also No.1, with the firm advising on 71 deals worth over US$97bn. Individual country performances are equally strong, underlining UBS's successful pan-regional strategy. The firm tops the revenue league tables in Australia, India, The Philippines and South East Asia, and second in China and Hong Kong. UBS writes down positions, predicts an overall loss in third quarter, and reorganizes management Following a write down of positions in fixed income, rates and currencies (FIRC), mainly related to deteriorating conditions in the US sub prime residential mortgage market, UBS is likely to record an overall Group pre-tax loss of between CHF 600 million and CHF 800 million for third quarter, ended September 30. Pre-tax profits for the first nine months of 2007 will be in the order of CHF 10 billion. Marcel Rohner, Group CEO, will reorganize senior management, take over as Chairman and CEO of the Investment Bank, and accelerate structural improvements to the firm.
